1815 Moonphase 212.050 - A. Lange & Sohne

The 1815 MOONPHASE "Homage to F. A. Lange" symbolizes the conviction of the Lange & Sohne watchmakers that time cannot be measured in life spans. Much longer time periods are needed to manifest true accuracy. So during his lifetime, the proud owner of an 1815 MOONPHASE will not be able to detect a deviation of the moon phase, nor will his descendants: the indication only needs to be corrected by one day after 30 generations - or 1058 years - have come and gone, provided the watch runs without interruption and remains set to the correct time. As the Lange & Sohne watchmakers developed the moon-phase train, they went far beyond the common approximation of a lunar month. Normally, 29.5 days is considered to be quite accurate, but the 1815 MOONPHASE is based on the accurate mean duration of the so-called synodic month: 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 3 seconds.
